PEACE BEGINS IN THE KITCHEN WEEK 12/20-12/26

Here were are again. This time last year I was newly gluten free and still eating dairy and yeast. So much has changed in a year, what I eat only being a tiny part. This week is full of old and new traditions, allot of planning, candy making, and baking. The guy has to work on Christmas Day. We have no choice in this, it's just the way the cookies are crumbling this year. Last year we had our big dinner on Christmas Eve and we are again this year. I am cooking at a shelter while he works, then we will get together with some of his coworkers for a potluck meal Christmas Day night.

To keep my personal spiritual priorities on track this week, I am cooking for peace. When we eat the foods of the people we are being programed to call enemy or forced to choose a side for or against, it changes us by reminding us they are people, not just points on a map. Food, children, family traditions everywhere, count, as much as yours do to you. These are people. This is their food. This is the the world we share. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

Time lines and lists: how to make the most of your holiday dinner.

Realized today that I had to change my entire game plan I had written out for the holiday meal. I still had my map, as we call it in the catering biz, written out for a big Christmas Day dinner. Since the day and time of the dinner has changed, so has my map. Writing out your plan of attack illuminates missing ingredients, time issues, and what you can do ahead. I still have to make one more quick trip to the market for 3 missing items and I am going to bravely do so tomorrow so ALL last minute items will be picked up in one swoop.

This is my new Christmas Eve dinner map. Yep, it is allot of work. If you've never written one, you may be surprised how much energy and time you actually spend on ONE meal. And yes, they are written proof you have earned the next day off from dishes.
